Fun fact: at Dinosaur National Monument, kids can apply to be a junior paleontologist.
They have to complete an activity booklet about dinosaurs and some other requirements, and then they get sworn in as official junior paleontologists by rangers at the park.
The Peanut is very excited by this prospect.
And not just because she'll earn a shiny, cool badge with a t-rex skull on it.
Which pretty much means we'll be going on a dino hike or watching a dino movie along with her, doesn't it? The thought that she could find a dinosaur bone is quite exciting -- she's been coming up with ways to look carefully, including telling me she neeeeeeeds a magnifying glass before we go.
Have I said lately how fun it is to have a child who enjoys science and learning? Love it.

oh yay! add a dinosaur book (or two) for the road trip, some brushes for dusting away dirt from potential fossils, and, of course, a cool bandanna to wear around her neck when exploring.
We recently came back from a trip through SD, Colorado and Kansas City (back to Pittsburgh) with our 8yo son, so I've been reading your posts with interest! I highly recommend the caves around Custer SD. We went to Jewel Cave and Wind Cave -- both national parks/monuments with Junior Ranger programs. It was a highlight of the trip -- even after seeing Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse!
