Running On Empty
They ran a 10K in my town this morning. We were out in the front yard doing our traditional coffee and cheering for all the runners involved.
No, I was not one of them.
Every year, I swear to myself that I'll get in shape and run in the race in the coming year. And every year, it comes and goes and I'm not in running shape.
This year? I'm doing something a little different.
Because, honestly, getting into running shape with lupus is a bit of a crazy dream unless it goes into remission with my joints.
So, instead, this year's vow is to be in better shape by next year's race, to be healthier, have eaten better, and thereby make the standing and cheering a comfortable and less-annoyed-with-myself experience. Down a size or two, exercising regularly and eating more veggies and fruits? That's do-able for me, and ought to be what I'm doing anyway, right?
And if I succeed? I'll be a helluva lot happier with myself, which is really the most important thing.
Here's to better health and healthier goals.
