It isn't as though I don't like celery. I do. But I don't want to live on it. Can the mother of a four year old who works way too many hours and doesn't get much exercise, and doesn't really take care of herself either find comfort and joy and lose a few pounds along the way?
Guess I'm about to find out.
I've started this blog as a sort of public space to share some of my healthier recipe triumphs with others, as well as the big ole failures and the tough weeks for staying on track. Sometimes, a little public accountability can be useful -- and this is my way of making certain that I get some.
My husband and I have been married for 14 years and counting, but we've picked up each others bad eating habits and it is well past time we both made some changes. Lately we've been trying to eat a bit healthier and he has started exercising regularly. I had as well, but then began to have horrible problems with my joints which curtailed the daily walks and weight workouts I had been trying to do. I have a chronic autoimmune issue which causes some substantial joint pain when I overdo it, and I'm now trying to figure a way to work around it and still get a little exercise.
You'd think with a four year old in the house, that neither of us would need the exercise and activity help. But you'd be wrong.
So, we are trying a sort of hybrid between Body for Life and the South Beach Diet: exercise (ha! for me on that one lately), lower glycemic foods, lean proteins, lots of veggies. And we'll see where that takes me over the next few months.
Beyond that, I'm trying to find a way to de-stress, take better care of myself, and stop and enjoy life a little more -- as my husband says, when momma isn't happy, no one is happy. And lately, I'm been too tired and stressed out and busy to get to that joyous, content place. So consider this an exercise in comfort and joy.
Hope you will join me -- maybe we can find some together down this path toward enlightenment. Or at least lose a few pounds along the way...

Congratulations on your new blog! Looking forward to sharing some good ideas here.
Thanks -- thought it would be a fun way to chat about all the other things that go on in the day to day. If I'm thinking about them, I'm sure there are lots of other folks who are thinking about them as well...and this gives all of us a chance to chat about this over coffee. :)
