Feeling A Little Thin Today

A very kind and thoughtful friend sent me The Complete Thin Man Collection of movies when I was told I would have to begin chemo (along with a box of lovely tea, which I am drinking right this moment as I type here).

If you have never seen any of these old black and white classics, you really should make an effort to do so.

Myrna Loy is one of my all time favorites, with her sharp, witty snark and dazzling smile, and her turn as Nora in the Thin Man movies is a delight.  William Powell plays her husband, the irreverent, saucy Nick who is as good at making martinis as he is at comedic timing.

They are a treat, especially since the repartee between the two is the textbook definition of wit at its finest.

And today?  I am going to treat myself to some good laughs, because I need a pick me up in the worst way.

The side effects of chemo have been hammering me hard all weekend, and don't seem to want to ease up this morning, either.  It has been miserable being me the last few days, but I keep telling myself that "this, too, shall pass."

And so it shall.  Mercifully, at some point, this will all ease back.  Probably just in time for the next round of treatment, but why dwell on the petty obvious points when I could be enjoying the splendor of the B.R.A.T. diet to try to ward off one of the more unsavory side effects.

If there is nothing to do but gut my way through it, I might as well do it laughing out loud, right?

So, bless you, dear, dear friend S, who sent the Thin Man movies.  You are a sweetheart of a woman, and I am most grateful for your thoughtfulness.  Now to make another cuppa tea and start the show...

PS -- If you have other comedy movie or teevee recommendations, I'd love to hear them.  Looks like laughter will be needed more than I expected, if this is any indication of the next few weeks for me...

Hmmm. comedies? Tough to beat the Thin Man movies for sure

There are some fun westerns if you can stand them (from the 60s mostly)
Support Your Local Sheriff
Support Your Local Gunfighter
Dirty Dingus Magee
Texas Across the River

Some fantasies might be fun as well
The Last Starfighter
Willow

Some WC Fields might do or Bob Hope comedies

I love old screwball comedies. I recently re-watched The Grant/Hepburn classic, Bringing Up Baby. So fun! Thanks, Richard, for the reminder on Charade, too. They've recently added a number of classics to Netflix instant views -- I feel a queue addition or two coming on...
