Comfort

It is raining, damp and dreary here this morning.  Perfect day to curl up with some hot tea and a good book...and a cozy pooch.

It is the sort of day that makes me miss our dachshund, P.J., who was always content to curl up alongside me and bask in my warmth.

Fall is was P.J.'s favorite time of year.  We had to turn the heater on last week for the first time, and as the warm air began to blast through the heater vent, I found myself wistfully hoping she'd scurry out of a blanket and over to roll her tummy toward the air, sighing that little pooch sigh of contentment as the blast of heat warmed up her belly.

It's funny, because at that moment our westie, Roxie, came trotting over with her happy little young doggie gait, and flopped down right in front of the heater vent.

No matter how things change, sometimes things are just the same even with a different cast of characters in the mix.  Funny how that happens in so many ways in life, right?

Life moves on, but I felt the need to remember my beloved pooch, P.J., this morning.  But also to say, things do get better -- I can remember her without tears now, and that's a good thing.  And there's always a nudge from the wee furry beastie of the house these days to remind me who needs the treats and the scratches at the moment, thank you very much.

Which is as it should be.  Comfort is a wonderful thing, and we should savor it when we find it, because it is ever fleeting, yet still ever present.

Have a wonderful weekend.
