Stacked
The Peanut and I spent most of the day yesterday culling through the bookshelves at the library, pulling out worn, torn and tattered books for repair or discard while also dusting and cleaning the shelves and the books themselves.
Let's just stipulate there was a lot of sneezing and exhaustion by the end of the day, shall we?
We'll be going back for more this morning, because there are a whole lot more shelves to be done before school begins on the 20th of August. Especially since there is an Open House night on the 16th, and I have a bulletin board and displays to get up well before then.
How did this summer sprint by faster than Usain Bolt in a track suit?
The best part of the whole thing is that I get to put a whole host of new books on the shelves as well from last year's excursion to the Scholastic warehouse sale and from every trip to the bookstore that has yielded a remaindered, mark-down or sale book find this summer.
We also cleaned off the bookshelves in The Peanut's room, and she has graciously added all her Magic Treehouse books to the library collection -- very exciting for her since she has more shelf space now, and great for me because I can replace horribly worn copies in the school library. I call that win-win!
For folks who may be new to weeding, I have found some basic get started information on the subject that is quite helpful, especially the PDF download on the CREW method.
But now, if you'll excuse me? I have some cleaning and shelving to do.
(Photo by Christy Hardin Smith. This is the opening display on the check-out counter from last year -- I found those wooden puzzle dinosaurs at Michaels in a clearance bin for less than $1 each and the kids adore them.)
