New Hobbit Footage

In my getting ready for school frenzy, I somehow missed this new footage from Peter Jackson about progress on filming The Hobbit.

The amusing thing is that in this production update, you get some bonus footage of Jackson and the cast at ComiCon in San Diego, which is a hoot.  Only Ian McKellan would show up in a coral-colored linen jacket with a Mandarin collar.  Priceless.

As Mr. ReddHedd could tell you, I'm still pissed that Ian McKellan did not win an Oscar for his superb work in any of the three films of The Lord of the Rings -- he was amazing and disappeared into the role with a wonderfully done twinkle in his eye.

I get that the Academy has a bias against science fiction and fantasy films on the whole (hello, no nomination for Alan Rickman in the last Harry Potter film, you goobers)...but come on, we are talking about Ian McKellan here.

The best version of MacBeth I've ever seen starred he and Judi Dench.  The man clearly has some serious acting chops, so stop being snobs and realize he deserves a nod, for heaven's sakes.

I cannot wait for this movie.  As I was reshelving a lot of my fiction books yesterday, I realized that we do not have one copy of The Hobbit in the library.  That's going to have to be remedied soon, I can tell you that.

In any case, enjoy the above video.  I'm off to meetings and then some more meetings today.

And then perhaps an afternoon nap if I am really, really lucky...
