As usual, I have come up with an idea for a bulletin board that far exceeds my artistic abilities to produce it.
My theme?
It's a good one for the start of the school year, I think: "Start your next chapter at the library." My mental image of the door/bulletin board is that of a book opening up with all sorts of characters and magical swirly smoke emerging from the opened book pages.
But then I found a wonderful drawing by the illustrator Catherine Varnedoe of a girl and a dragon reading a book together and absolutely love it, too. But I am really stumped as to how I could possibly draw that for myself on a large door and have it come out looking half as good.
Looks like I may end up with a date with the overhead projector in the near future...or that I'll be printing off a lot of images from the computer and then cutting them out to use as pop-in illustrations on the door that I can perhaps weave into the design.
You know how sometimes you have an image in your head that looks so wonderful, but you have no idea how to make it happen in reality? That's me at the moment.
If and when I finally get it up this week, I will definitely take pictures and share. Who says that teachers get the whole summer off?
Making a little headway on my lesson plans, but not nearly enough. Honestly? I don't know how I'm going to get everything done -- the laminating and cutting out, the planning, the room re-organization, and everything else in between -- before the start of school in two weeks. It's going to be a race to the finish...again...I'm afraid.
How is your summer going?
