Our Weekend Adorable Kitty Adventure

This weekend, we had a little bit of an adorable kitty adventure.

The Peanut went across the street to see if one of our neighbors wanted to play.  They were out of town and weren't home, but on the way back to our house The Peanut realized that there were two teensy baby kittens that had been dumped by someone on the neighbor's front porch.

Our neighbors help with a local animal shelter fostering kitties on occasion and we think that, perhaps, someone who wasn't too kind to these kittens at least dropped them off somewhere that they could get a little much-needed love and attention.  Newsflash, though:  these kittens were way, way too young to be taken from their mother -- they are really, really tiny.

The Peanut managed to cross Main Street juggling two teeny, tiny, squirmy kitties and got them all the way back to our house safely.  I'm so proud of her!

And so glad she brought them home -- they were starving and completely dehydrated.

After spending some time looking for the momma kitty just in case she had stashed the kittens on the porch to go hunting -- no momma in sight, sadly -- we went into kitty-saving action mode at that point.  I cleaned the pitiful little creatures off while Mr. ReddHedd ran out to the pet store for a tiny feeding bottle and some kitten milk.

We managed to get some food into them and a warm blanket into an old kennel for them to sleep.   With a little food in their tiny bellies, they sacked out.

After the second feeding, we managed to coax some purrs out of the wee little kitties, but it was still 50/50 in my mind as to whether they'd make it to the next morning.  They really were in bad shape when they first arrived.

Our poor westie was going bonkers:  there were small, yowling furry creatures touching her girlie, and that was not going over well.  At all.  She got aggressive with the kitty kennel, so we ended up having to crate her for most of the evening while we nursed the kitties through the first and second feedings.  It was not a popular choice for pooches.

By the next morning, they were much more alert and responsive and ready to eat, eat, eat -- which to me was a very good sign.

By then, the neighbors were home, and we took the kitties over so that the nice folks at the shelter could find someone who could give them a good once over.

Between the Olympics and the kitty adventure, it has been quite a weekend.  They sure were cute, though!  And The Peanut loved being able to bottle feed them and play with them.

PS -- If you are interested in adopting one of the kittens, I'm happy to put you in touch with someone to see if that is possible.  They really are just cute as can be!
