The Cheiftans are doing a 50th anniversary album as a collaborative effort with some newer artists.
Including Imelda May, whose work is breathtaking on its own for her original voice.
Paddy Maloney, the bagpiper whose face is probably the most well known of the Chieftans long-timers, had this to say to the NYTimes a few days ago:
What’s happening here with these young groups is they’re coming back to the melody, back to the real stuff, the roots and the folk feeling of them all....I love traditional Irish music, but I also adore a more modern twist on it when it is done well. You can depend on anything the Chieftans perform being done as well as they possibly can do it.
Looking forward to Voice Of Ages.
