This year? The New Year's resolutions have a different feel.
Gone are the days of nitpicky, little derogatory "what's wrong with me, let's make a list" kinds of resolutions. Ticking off a list of what I don't like about myself or my house or whatever else has not produced the desired results, even after years of self-diagnosis and attempts to beat myself into resolution submission.
No more.
Usher out the old, enter the new.
This coming year, I choose more joy. I vow to make better choices for myself and my family, one choice at a time.
When I come to a fork in the road, I'll try to choose the best one I can based on the facts I have. And if it doesn't work out? No self flogging, I'll just make a course correction toward a better direction and keep on going forward.
In 2012, when I have an opportunity for a good belly laugh, some hugs or play time with our 8 year old, some hand holding or a dance with my hubby?
I'm there. With gusto.
I'm not saying that the decluttering, get in better shape, eat more veggies, blah-bitty-blah resolutions don't have their place. But I'm replacing them with things like this:
"Choose to nourish my body with healthier food, getting healthier and being able to do more with the family I love."
"Get some exercise, do a little stretching, lift a few weights, all to loosen up my joints and make a longer life a lot more enjoyable. If I get a better, tighter bum in the process, that would be awesome!"
"Make a tour through the house picking up and putting away any obvious clutter or throwing away trash remnants that linger -- so that we can wake up to a fresh, cozy and nurturing home. Start the day with some uncluttered joy."
"Savor the little things right now, right this minute, because life is too short to let them pass by without being grateful for them."
See what I mean? For 2012, I choose more joy. Somehow, I think this may be our best year yet...

Oh, gosh, I hope I didn't double comment here. I had to reset my password.
Just to say, Christy, that I miss your compassionate and human voice.
And, I see your Peanut is growing up into a lovely girl. She looks an awful lot liker her momma.
Molly suggested I come and say
Happy New Year! So, I did.
Wishing the best year yet.
Happy New Year, Christy
I think of you from time to time, of course. You were my chosen mentor at Firedoglake. You showed up a moral compass that I have tried to follow.
Wow, your peanut is so grown up and beautiful. Sure looks like her momma.
My wishes for a best year yet for all three of you.
With much fondness,
Demi/Deborah Moore

Hey Demi -- good to see you. Hope you had a wonderful start to the new year. And yes, The Peanut is growing up way too quickly, but that is just the way of the world, isn't it? It keeps on turning no matter how we try to slow it down or run it backward. Repeat after me: It is what it is.
:)
Petrocelli -- long time, no type! Happy New Year to you and yours as well.
