Oh, the joys of the UPS man bringing a new book to the door.
Huzzah, the latest book in the Wheel of Time series has arrived: Towers of Midnight.
And I know what I will be doing for the next few days, with my head buried in the book to see if my predictions from the early books in this series will come to pass. I called Verin's secret years ago, and I was so thrilled to see that I was somehow right. (Sometimes, the little clues dropped as breadcrumbs in the prose do get noticed and pieced together by a reader. Good thing to keep in mind if you are writing, eh?)
Can't wait to read the rest.
With one book to go in the series, it is going to be a fun read through this one, I hope. I've been pleasantly surprised by Brandon Sanderson's work in fleshing out the late Robert Jordan's notes and drafts on this -- here's hoping he keeps it up in the latest volume.
It's a big fat fantasy book, kids, so hang on to your hats for a good, long, satisfying read. (she says hopefully)
That said, I'd be thrilled if I could only prod George R. R. Martin past his blocking point in his series, A Song of Ice and Fire.
A girl can dream, anyway...
PS: If you haven't yet dipped your toe into the Wheel of Time series, start with the first book and work your way forward through some really amazing reading for at least the first three or four books, a few slow and irritating books that needed a much tighter edit in the middle, and then some great reading on the back end, too. But start with the first book or you'll miss the magic that began the whole thing: The Eye of the World.
