A Bushel Of Apple Recipes

Fall's recipes almost always include apples.  For me, that's a real treat, because I love them raw and crispy or cooked and meltingly delicious or anything in between.

This time of year, one of my favorite things to whip up is a big crockpot full of apple cider, mulling with some Penzey's mulling spices, a little sugar (if it is a tart batch only) and/or a bit of either cranberry or orange juice blended in on occasion for a tasty change of pace.

If you heat it in the crockpot, you can leave it on warm for a while, and your whole house smells like heaven while it mulls.

Wonderful stuff, and perfect for when company drops over.

When I want some quickly?  I just shake a little apple pie spice in the bottom of a mug, fill it with cider and heat it in the microwave for two and a half minutes or so to steep the spice into the cider.  Love it.  It's like apple pie in a mug.

But we also do a lot with apple muffins, crisps, baked and sauteed apples for desserts.  And for snacks?  A cut up apple with a tablespoon or so of peanut butter can be pure heaven.

You forgot Andrew Jackson’s Big Block of Cheese with nary a macaroni in sight.
