It's time for some serious tomato staking in the garden today.
We've had a string of hot, humid days with no rain lately, and all of my tomato plants have gotten leggy and need better support than what I have now.
So, I'm off to the garden center to see what they have that is better than last year's tomato cage cheap wire thingy leftovers. SIGH
You try to be frugal, and look where it gets you?
A good reminder that cheaper isn't always better in the long run, I suppose.
If folks have had particular success with a tomato stake/cage/whatever, let me know. Growing up, we just used wooden stakes that had been used for eons, it seemed, in my family. But tying off the vines wasn't always the sturdiest way to go over the course of a summer.
Then again, what I have now isn't working either, so maybe there is no good answer. If someone has one, though, I'd love to know what it is.
(Lovely photo via Manjith Kainickara. Alas, I don't have any that are that ripe yet...it's a slow ripening year, I'm afraid.)
